About the Forum

The industry has grown. The science that explains why it exists has not.

The mutually beneficial bond between people and animals — the Human-Animal Bond — is backed by thousands of studies abroad on cardiovascular health, mental health, child development and ageing. Korea has had neither an interdisciplinary body nor a flagship event for it.

As long as the social value of companion animals rests on claims rather than data, policy stays in the language of regulation — and there is no language to persuade those who do not live with animals.

This forum brings the science of the bond before industry, academia and the public for the first time — and declares the launch of HABI Global, Korea's first dedicated HAB organisation.

Human–Animal Bonding & InteractionHuman–Animal Bonding & Interaction

Precedent · Tokyo, September 2026

In Japan, it was not a veterinary body but a company that hosted HAB.

The 28th JBVP special programme "HAB makes the world healthier" was hosted by the pet company Kyoritsu Seiyaku. A senior veterinarian, a practising clinician and a television personality shared one stage and signed a five-point HAB Declaration.

When industry hosts the HAB agenda, both the brand and the social legitimacy of the whole sector rise together. In Korea, the Korea Pet Food Association is the first to build this model.

Japan is the only major country where dog ownership is falling. Before Korea reaches the same point, this forum sets out the value of the bond as evidence for society.

The industry has grown. The science that explains why it exists has not.

The bond is not a sentiment. It is measurable health.
